The Percivals 2026, Framing Stage
Behind the scenes during framing, the stage where the printed image is carefully prepared, assembled, and brought into its final physical presence.
Today I spent time with the team at Fantastic Framing in Sydney, finalising the framing of the artwork selected as a finalist in the Percival Photographic Portrait Prize 2026.

Pre-assembly cleaning of the artwork

Perspex cut and mounted in frame
This stage brings the work fully into its physical form. The image, already realised through capture and print, now becomes a complete object, prepared for presentation within a gallery context.
The framing was completed in accordance with the specific requirements set out by the Percivals Art Prize, including:
Perspex glazing only, no glass
D-rings only, no wire or alternative hanging systems
Exact sizing aligned with the submitted work
Delivery scheduled between 5 to 7 May

Preparing the spacers along the sides of the frame

Artwork printed, mounted and ready to place in the frame

The artwork fits precisely into the frame

The artwork is now ready for final stages of the framing process
Fantastic Framing have managed the entire process with clarity and precision, from printing through to final assembly and delivery coordination.
I have felt very supported throughout the process, and the advice from the team assisted me in making decisions with ease.

The final touches

Attention to detail in the framing process

Framing completed, cleaning in process and ready for boxing and delivery to Townsville
There is a quiet satisfaction in this phase, as the work now moves beyond the studio and into the world, resolved, contained, and ready for exhibition at Perc Tucker Regional Gallery in Townsville, May 23 to August 30, 2026.
