Overview
Paint My Place was a major group exhibition presented at Coffs Harbour Regional Gallery in 2016. The project was developed by Gallery Director Dr Leigh Summers through an invited artist residency at Moonee Beach, curated by Abigail Moncrieff and supported by the Friends of the Gallery.
The exhibition brought together fifteen of Australia’s most respected contemporary painters, many based in Sydney, who were invited to participate in a ten-day residency exploring the natural, suburban, and urban landscapes of the Coffs Harbour region. The resulting works reflected a wide range of responses to place, spanning direct plein-air painting, studio-based interpretation, and material experimentation.
The exhibition featured more than 70 newly created works and was widely regarded as a highly successful artist camp and exhibition outcome.

- Oil painting created outdoors
- Ceramic plates
- Sculptural installations
- Mixed media collages
The exhibition offered audiences a layered interpretation of place, where coastal landscapes, everyday suburban scenes, and urban textures were viewed through the distinct visual languages of each artist.
An artists’ talk and public programming accompanied the exhibition, further engaging the local community with the residency process and creative outcomes.
