pider and Rose
Feature Film, Australia
Location work, Mudgee, NSW

Movement Consultant on Spider and Rose, working on location in Mudgee, NSW, for several days during principal photography. I worked directly with Ruth Cracknell and Max Cullen, supporting character movement and physical presence for performance. Ruth was a remarkably fluid, open, and responsive collaborator, in striking contrast to the rigidity of her on-screen character.

Transport to and from the remote location formed part of the production rhythm, including travel with a crew member responsible for delivering the daily film rushes. The return journey to Sydney was via a four-seater light aircraft, again accompanying the rushes.

During this period, noted Australian film critics David Stratton and Margaret Pomeranz visited the set. At the time, they were the presenters of At the Movies, the long-running ABC television program dedicated to cinema criticism.

Years later, while living in Sawtell, I was invited to photograph David Stratton in connection with his role as patron of the Sawtell Cinema. David played a key role in supporting the cinema’s community fundraising efforts, lending his name and advocacy to strengthen regional access to quality film. Following his passing in 2025, the Sawtell Cinema honoured his legacy with a screening of one of his favourite films, Singin’ in the Rain, reflecting his enduring influence and love of cinema.
