The Platform | Authenticity & Process | Raymond Mather | CV
ART1 is a self-curated fine art photography publishing platform created by Australian artist Raymond Mather, presenting limited edition photographic works drawn from a lifelong creative practice spanning dance, theatre, visual arts, curation, and photography.
ART1 functions as an independent archive and living body of work shaped over decades of cultural engagement, observation, and artistic evolution, guided by experiential clarity, continuity, and long-term vision.
“A digitally developed photographic practice,
informed by years of analogue experience.”
- Raymond Mather
The Work
Each artwork is presented as a considered visual statement emerging from sustained practice, lived experience, and refined authorship. The work engages both emotionally and visually, offering presence, atmosphere, and longevity within contemporary living and working spaces.
Mather’s photographic language is informed by movement, timing, and spatial awareness developed through more than forty years in dance and performance. This sensitivity translates into images that balance stillness with motion, atmosphere with structure, and immediacy with quiet reflection.
Process and Transformation
All works presented through ART1 are created from direct photographic capture and developed individually by the artist.
Mather’s practice involves a layered digital process refined since 2006, applied selectively according to the needs of each image. Some works are developed through a process he describes as working at the edge of destruction, where images are pushed, stressed, and refined until an alternative artistic version reveals itself. Others are resolved through restraint and minimal intervention.
When present, digital noise, artefacts, and visual tension are not treated as errors to be corrected, but as intentional traces of the creative process, integrated within the work to preserve and amplify the original photographic essence.
Range and Visual Language
The practice spans lyrical abstraction, narrative and cinematic imagery, emotional landscapes, monochrome studies, still life, and vibrant Pop-inspired photographic works, alongside contemporary decorative expression.
These diverse registers are unified by a consistent attention to rhythm, form, and emotional resonance.
Material and Model
ART1 is grounded in principles of sustainability, integrity, and accessibility.
All works are produced using a Print-Roll-Send model: museum-quality papers, small edition sizes, on-demand production, and global delivery with minimal waste. Each signed and numbered fine art printed artwork is issued as part of a limited edition of 50 and accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity.
This approach prioritises precision, intention, professional documentation, and environmental responsibility.
Position
ART1 operates within the global art market as an integrated creative environment where artistic intent, professional standards, and audience engagement are aligned without dilution or compromise.
The platform embodies a self-directed model of cultural authorship, enabling the artist to curate, contextualise, and present work with clarity, independence, and long-term vision.
Closing Statement
ART1 exists as a calm and enduring space created by Raymond Mather for collectors, designers, viewers, and art lovers who value authenticity, coherence, and emotional depth.
The works presented across the ART1 catalogue form a cohesive and evolving visual language shaped by lived experience, sustained attention, and genuine care for both the creative process and the people who engage with it.
This practice sits outside the mainstream, not in opposition, but in evolution. It reflects a belief that contemporary art can be both rigorous and accessible, both independent and professionally crafted, and that a sustained body of work, when allowed to speak clearly and honestly, requires no amplification beyond integrity, presence, and truth.
