In the current landscape of AI-generated imagery, the question of authenticity is becoming more visible. At ART1, authenticity is not treated as a feature or an added layer. It is the foundation of the work.
Each artwork originates from original photographic capture and is developed, refined, and presented within a structured system of authorship, provenance, and context.
A Structured Approach to Authenticity
Authenticity is not defined by a single file, tool, or claim. It is established through a set of aligned layers that, together, form a coherent and verifiable whole.
Capture
Each work begins with the recording of light through a camera system. Across film, digital, and mobile formats, this establishes a direct connection to a real-world moment.
Process
All images are personally developed and refined by the artist using professional photographic tools, including Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop. This process interprets and shapes the image while maintaining its origin in photographic capture. Specialist enhancement tools may be used where required as part of standard professional practice.
Authorship
The work exists within a continuous body of photographic practice developed over several decades. Each image originates from an original concept and is shaped through a process of observation, selection, and visual development.
Authorship is expressed through consistency of vision, approach, and visual language across the ART1 archive.
Provenance
Each artwork is released as a limited edition, produced on museum-quality materials, and accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity. This establishes the work as a defined art object, with clear structure and accountability.
Context
The work is situated through exhibitions, institutional connections, and an expanding archive that documents its development over time. This context provides placement within a broader photographic and cultural framework.
Position
ART1 is a monographic, artist-run platform presenting a continuous body of photographic work. The integration of capture, process, authorship, provenance, and context forms a complete system.
While AI-generated imagery can produce visually convincing results, it does not inherently carry this layered structure. It may imitate appearance, but it does not replicate continuity of practice, authorship over time, or established provenance.
The distinction is not visual alone. It is structural.
All ART1 works originate from camera-based photographic capture and are developed through a professional, artist-controlled process. No generative AI elements are used in the creation of these artworks.
