Cliche Life - Chain Reaction - 90x60cm Horizontal (#266924v1)

Four brightly coloured miniature figures emerge from a tangled mass of metallic chains in Chain Reaction - 266924v1, part of Raymond Mather’s ongoing Cliché Life series.

A red figure occupies the foreground while yellow, green and orange figures appear at varying distances behind it. The reflective chains weave around and between them, transforming an everyday collection of jewellery into a dense and uncertain landscape.

The familiar phrase “chain reaction” becomes both literal and suggestive. Each figure appears separate, yet all occupy the same interconnected field, proposing ideas of consequence, connection and the ways one action can extend beyond the individual who initiates it.

The cheerful colours and smiling forms contrast with the weight and complexity of the surrounding chains, allowing humour and unease to coexist.

Part of Cliché Life, the work uses commonplace objects and familiar language to construct photographic narratives in which ordinary things acquire unexpected relationships and meanings.

Printed on museum-grade archival cotton rag paper using archival pigment inks. Each work is individually signed and accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity.
