Cliche Life - Cupcakes - 60x90cm Vertical (#266660v1)

Colourful miniature figures emerge from a tower of pastel cupcake cases in Cupcakes - 266660v1, part of Raymond Mather’s ongoing Cliché Life photographic series.

Alternating layers of pale pink and blue paper cases form an improbable pedestal from which the small translucent figures appear. An orange figure leans forward at the centre while red, green and purple companions recede softly behind.

The familiar materials of domestic baking are transformed through scale and arrangement. The cupcake cases become architecture, container and stage, while the tiny figures hover somewhere between confectionery, ornament and character.

Playful yet strangely ceremonial, the composition explores presentation, individuality and belonging through the visual humour of constructed still life.

Part of Cliché Life, the work transforms familiar objects and associations through staging, scale and photographic observation.

Printed on museum-grade archival cotton rag paper using archival pigment inks. Each work is individually signed and accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity.
