Colourful miniature figures emerge from pastel cupcake cases in Cupcakes - 266655v1, part of Raymond Mather’s ongoing Cliché Life photographic series.

A red figure occupies the foreground, nestled inside a pale blue paper case, while orange, purple and green companions recede through the composition. The delicate pastel folds of the cupcake cases contrast with the saturated translucent figures, turning an ordinary baking object into an unexpected setting.

Playful and deliberately absurd, the arrangement blurs the distinction between people, sweets and objects. The figures appear individually packaged and presented, suggesting ideas of identity, consumption, presentation and belonging while retaining the visual humour central to Cliché Life.
