The familiar components of fishing equipment are enlarged through the miniature scale of the figures. Fishing line twists and loops through the composition, creating an almost sculptural structure above the small inhabitants below, while hooks and sinkers remain scattered throughout their bright orange environment.

The expression “hook, line and sinker” describes accepting something completely, particularly something deceptive or improbable. Here, the familiar phrase is reconstructed literally, transforming its component words into an absurd miniature scene.

Part of Cliché Life, the work uses everyday objects, scale, colour and visual humour to reconsider language that has become so familiar its original imagery is often overlooked.
