Colourful gummy figures inhabit a crystalline landscape of transparent ice cubes in Ice Ice Baby - 266738v1, part of Raymond Mather’s ongoing Cliché Life photographic series.

Red, orange, green and yellow figures appear at different levels within the miniature frozen terrain, surrounded by stacked translucent blocks and their reflections. Photographed at close range, the everyday objects shift dramatically in scale, transforming a simple arrangement into an imagined icy environment.

Taking its title from the familiar phrase “Ice Ice Baby,” the photograph combines visual humour with the artificiality of miniature construction. Bright confectionery colour interrupts the almost colourless crystalline forms, creating a playful encounter between warmth, cold, transparency and scale.

Part of Cliché Life, the work transforms familiar words and expressions through staged photography, miniature objects and deliberately improbable visual worlds.
