Let’s Monkey Around - 266679v1 turns a familiar expression into a playful miniature scene of organised chaos.

Bright orange toy monkeys tumble, hang and clamber around an equally vivid orange barrel, their curling tails and outstretched limbs forming an energetic mass of repeated shapes. Standing quietly beside them, two small gummy figures appear to observe the commotion from a safe distance.

The restricted orange palette initially transforms the barrel and monkeys into a single sculptural form, while the contrasting green and red figures introduce both scale and narrative. What begins as a simple arrangement of familiar objects becomes a miniature social scene built around play, disorder and observation.

Part of Raymond Mather’s ongoing Cliché Life series, the photograph gives physical form to the everyday phrase “let’s monkey around”, using humour, colour and visual exaggeration to expose the imagery hidden inside familiar language.
