Cliche Life - Made To Measure - 90x60cm Horizontal (#266866v1)

Made To Measure - 266866v1 gives physical form to a familiar expression through an arrangement of brightly coloured gummy figures gathered inside a coiled pink measuring tape.

Wrapped within its numbered circumference, the figures become both the subjects of measurement and objects contained by it. A red figure emerges prominently from the group while flashes of orange, green and yellow appear behind, creating a concentrated cluster of colour within an otherwise expansive white field.

The simplicity of the arrangement allows the familiar phrase to shift between humour and suggestion. Measurement becomes not only a question of dimensions, but also of standards, expectations and the ways things are made to fit.

Part of Raymond Mather’s ongoing Cliché Life series, the photograph uses familiar objects, visual humour and literal interpretation to uncover the imagery and associations hidden within everyday language.
