On The Rocks - 266772v1 transforms a familiar expression into a playful photographic still life, placing colourful gummy figures among a crystalline arrangement of ice cubes and glass.

Perched around the rim and partially concealed within the transparent forms, the figures appear suspended within an unstable landscape of reflections, refractions and distorted colour. Clear surfaces fracture the scene, revealing glimpses of red, yellow, orange and green through layers of glass and ice.

The familiar phrase “on the rocks” shifts between its literal association with ice and its suggestion of uncertainty or instability, allowing an everyday expression to become a small visual narrative.

Part of Raymond Mather’s ongoing Cliché Life series, the photograph uses familiar objects, visual humour and literal interpretation to uncover the imagery and associations hidden within everyday language.
