Cliche Life - Perfect Specimens - 90x60cm Horizontal (#267041v1)

Perfect Specimens - 267041v1 transforms a group of colourful gummy figures into an unlikely collection of specimens, each positioned within the opening of a small glass bottle while the corresponding corks sit neatly in front.

Arranged against a luminous white background, the transparent bottles create an ordered, almost scientific display. Differences in colour, shape and scale remain visible within the repeated structure, turning a playful collection of sweets into objects that appear to have been classified, preserved and presented for examination.

The title introduces a question beneath the humour: what makes something a perfect specimen, and according to whose measure?

Part of Raymond Mather’s ongoing Cliché Life series, the photograph uses familiar objects, visual humour and literal interpretation to explore the assumptions embedded within everyday language.
