Cliche Life - Playtime - 90x60cm Horizontal (#266698v1)

Playtime - 266698v1, colourful wooden blocks form an improvised landscape populated by a small group of gummy figures. Some stand among the construction, others appear partially concealed within it, while a solitary figure remains apart from the activity.

Against the clean white background and reflective surface, the familiar materials of childhood play become a miniature social world. The apparently simple arrangement begins to suggest relationships between belonging and separation, participation and observation, order and disorder.

Playtime retains the immediate pleasure of colour and childhood objects while leaving the relationships between its tiny inhabitants unresolved.

Part of Raymond Mather’s ongoing Cliché Life series, the photograph uses familiar objects, visual humour and literal interpretation to explore the assumptions and narratives embedded within everyday life.
