Plenty of Fish in the Sea - 266416v1, four colourful gummy figures stand among scattered fish beneath an oversized white net in Plenty of Fish in the Sea, a playful interpretation of the familiar expression associated with relationships, choice and possibility.

Set against an expansive blue background, the tiny figures appear dwarfed by the net rising above them. What begins as a familiar reassurance becomes more ambiguous: among so many possibilities, who is searching, who is being chosen and who might ultimately become caught?

The exaggerated scale and open space transform the miniature arrangement into an imagined landscape, while the humour of the familiar objects gives way to ideas of attraction, selection, chance and entanglement.

Part of Raymond Mather's ongoing Cliché Life series, the photograph uses literal interpretation, familiar objects and visual humour to reconsider the everyday expressions through which human experience is explained.
