Put a Stop to It - 266950v1, colourful gummy figures appear among a collection of vintage glass stoppers in Put a Stop to It, a literal interpretation of the familiar expression used when something has gone far enough.

Some of the oversized stoppers remain upright while others have fallen across the scene, creating a miniature landscape through which the small figures appear to navigate. Their translucent colours echo the blue, green, amber and smoky glass, confusing the distinction between object and character.

The playful arrangement turns the everyday instruction to "put a stop to it" into a physical action, while the exaggerated difference in scale introduces ideas of obstruction, interruption and control.

Part of Raymond Mather's ongoing Cliché Life series, the photograph uses familiar language, collected objects and visual humour to transform an ordinary expression into an unexpected still life.

Printed on museum-grade archival cotton rag paper using archival pigment inks. Each work is individually signed and accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity.
