Cliche Life - Santa Babies - 90x60cm Horizontal (#266865v1)

Three tiny figures emerge from a tangle of red-and-white striped scarves in Santa Babies - 266865v1, while oversized knitted hats rise behind them like an improbable festive gathering.

Red, green and orange characters occupy the centre of the composition, surrounded by soft pompoms, looping fabric and familiar Christmas colours. Shallow focus transforms the scattered foreground into a soft visual barrier, giving the miniature figures an unexpected sense of presence and scale.

Part family portrait, part Christmas tableau, the photograph plays with repetition, proportion and the human tendency to find personality in even the smallest inanimate objects.

Part of Raymond Mather's ongoing Cliché Life series, the work uses collected objects, constructed still life and visual humour to reconsider the familiar.
