Colourful confectionery figures gather among an assortment of wine corks in What A Corker - 266641v1.
The small figures emerge from between the oversized cork forms, their saturated yellow, orange, red, green and deep burgundy contrasting with the warm, textured surfaces surrounding them.
Differences in scale transform the discarded corks into an improbable landscape, while the figures appear to inhabit, explore or perhaps celebrate their curious environment.
The familiar expression "what a corker" traditionally signals something exceptional, remarkable or particularly good. Here, the phrase is made literal through an abundance of corks and the playful presence of the confectionery figures, allowing language, humour and visual association to intersect.
Part of Raymond Mather's ongoing Cliché Life series, What A Corker uses familiar objects, scale and visual wordplay to transform an everyday expression into a constructed photographic narrative.
Printed on museum-grade archival cotton rag paper using archival pigment inks. Each work is individually signed and accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity.
