Three colourful confectionery figures emerge from a chaotic landscape of scattered wooden toothpicks in What A Pick - 267283v1.
The central red figure stands sharply defined while orange and green companions soften into the foreground. Around them, the familiar toothpick is transformed through scale and shallow depth of field into an unruly environment of intersecting lines, barriers and pointed forms.
The title plays with the familiar expression "what a pickle", translating the predicament into the literal language of picks. Humour and absurdity sit beneath the image, while the exaggerated scale turns an ordinary domestic object into something unexpectedly precarious.
Part of Raymond Mather's ongoing Cliché Life series, What A Pick uses everyday objects, confectionery figures and visual wordplay to construct miniature photographic narratives from familiar language.
Printed on museum-grade archival cotton rag paper using archival pigment inks. Each work is individually signed and accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity.
