Trolley Dolly - Series No.1: 197147, playful and poignant in equal measure, this early work from Raymond Mather’s Trolley Dolly series stages a blue skinned fashion doll perched atop a miniature shopping trolley overflowing with symbolic essentials: a handmade cupcake, a tiny satchel, makeshift bedding, and clips pegged like laundry in transit. With her bright eyes and candy coloured hair, the doll appears both content and displaced, an emblem of aesthetic care amid precarious conditions.
Set against a domestic crochet blanket and soft furnishings, the scene highlights the juxtaposition between comfort and uncertainty. The doll, like many living on society’s edges, carries her life with her. Mather invites us to look closer, not just at the doll, but at the invisible narratives she represents.
Printed on museum-grade archival cotton rag paper using archival pigment inks. Each work is individually signed and accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity.
