Trolley Dolly - Series No.2: 19E2255v11, in this richly textured urban portrait, Raymond Mather presents a figure at once present and vanishing, a doll like woman whose face is gently embedded into the timber slats of a weathered door. Her expression is enigmatic, framed by cascading blonde hair and a distant gaze that merges with shadow and surface. A red handled shopping trolley waits below, empty and symbolic, grounded in the stark realism of street life. On the adjacent brick wall, deep blue shadows and subtle overlays evoke memory, movement, and emotional residue.
As part of the Trolley Dolly collection, this piece continues the series’ exploration of homelessness, invisibility, and the everyday symbols of survival. The doll figure is not a toy but a surrogate, a feminine archetype, at once glamorised and abandoned. This work invites us to see beyond the surface and to acknowledge the dignity within the margins.
