Trolley Dolly - Series No.2: 19E2255v13, brightly coloured yet steeped in quiet sadness, this striking piece from Raymond Mather’s Trolley Dolly series features a large, knitted doll embedded within the timber slats of a weathered door. Her vibrant striped outfit and fixed gaze convey both playfulness and unease, standing in stark contrast to the empty shopping trolley beside her, a recurring symbol of abandonment and survival. The doll’s shadow stretches across the bricks, rendered ghostlike against a moody blue wall under a solitary red trimmed vent.
Part of the Trolley Dolly collection, this image speaks directly to the unseen stories of those facing homelessness, particularly women and children. The oversized doll, once a comfort object, here becomes a haunting totem of innocence lost and care unmet. Mather’s layered technique creates a surreal, dreamlike quality, inviting the viewer to reflect on visibility, safety, and societal neglect.
Printed on museum-grade archival cotton rag paper using archival pigment inks. Each work is individually signed and accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity.
