Trolley Dolly - Series No.2: 19E2255v6, a poised and ghostly doll figure floats against a darkened urban wall, her blonde hair luminous and her patterned dress hovering mid step, as if caught between movement and stillness. Below her, a lone shopping trolley rests idly on the kerb, red handled and empty, echoing themes of neglect and survival. A timber slatted door anchors the left side of the composition, layered with traces of daily life and subtle glimmers of fruit and shadow.
Part of Raymond Mather’s Trolley Dolly collection, this work holds a mirror to the invisible stories of homelessness, particularly those of women and children, where appearances conceal deep fragility. The fashionable doll becomes a visual archetype of perfection overlaying hardship, her vacant stare revealing more than words can say. This piece asks: Who are we forgetting?
